The incisions needed for a breast lift will vary considerably depending on the amount of lifting you require. Incisions may be placed around the border of the areola (either partially or all the way around), down the center of the breast directly beneath the areola, and in the natural folds of the breast. Breast lift scars will be noticeable for several months after surgery but should fade dramatically over time.

Is Breast Lift surgery painful?

Breast Lift or Mastopexy surgery is not a painful procedure. Because of the general anesthesia administered during the surgery, you will feel nothing during the procedure. Post-operatively, discomfort and soreness in the surgical area is to be expected, but very few of our patients have difficulty with the pain. For best results, be sure to follow Dr. Lu’s post-operative instructions exactly to minimize discomfort and the risk of complications.

Can I Breastfeed after Breast Lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery does not usually prevent or limit breast feeding ability. Of course, it depends on the technique used, but usually there is no impact on ability to breastfeed. I always tell my patients, If you could breast feed prior to your lift, you should be able to breast feed after your lift.

The Consultation

At RL Center for Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa, each initial patient consultation is different.

Depending on your needs, desired treatments, areas of concern, and simply who you are as a patient, we will schedule you with an actual treatment provider to discuss your goals, budget, and more. During this appointment, we will go through before & after photos, your medical history, and any questions you might have. Only then can we make a recommendation for which procedures or treatments may be right for you and why. We will be sure to educate you on how the treatments work, including what to expect during and afterward.

We have a $100 consultation fee for all cosmetic surgery consultations; consults typically last about 40 minutes (revision consultation fees vary) At the end of your consultation, you will leave our office in Vernon Hills with a thorough, personalized treatment plan. And when you’re ready, we’ll schedule your surgery for a day and time that works for your schedule.

Getting a Breast Lift

A typical breast augmentation procedure will last between two to three hours and is performed under general anesthesia.

A breast lift is performed under either local or general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Leonard Lu takes special care to make incisions as minimal and discreet as possible. Incision placement will depend upon the approach that Dr. Lu takes for your particular procedure, which you can discuss with him during your consultation.

The Procedure

Before any cosmetic surgery, including breast lift, your surgeon will review your recovery schedule in detail so you feel prepared for what to expect afterwards.

Breast Lift is an outpatient procedure that we perform in our surgical facility, which means you’ll be able to go home the same day. Pain is managed by a combination of local anesthetic nerve blocks performed at the time of surgery and oral pain medications as needed. In general, you’ll still be experiencing the effects of the anesthesia when you arrive home. Therefore, it’s important to have someone who can drive you home and take care of you for the first 24 hours following your breast lift surgery. Your surgeon will send you home with both instructions for your recovery and for your breast lift to heal correctly.

The duration of the surgery depends on whether you are combining your breast lift with any additional procedures. While the exact approach may vary, in general, Dr. Lu will first reshape the breast tissue to create a rounder appearance. He will then drape the breast skin over the new shape and excise any extra tissue that sags below the breast crease.

The nipple and areola may be moved higher on the breast or resized as well. Finally, any excess skin is trimmed to create a tighter, more defined appearance. When the breast lift is complete, the incisions are closed with stitches and tend to heal well.

The Recovery

During your breast lift recovery, dressings or bandages will be applied to the incisions after the Breast Lift surgery is completed.

You’ll need to wear an elastic bandage or support bra to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal.

Medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection
