Iced Drinks Cause Eye Bags?! 8 Fun Tips for Flawless Skin
Elle recently spoke to facial expert and Ling Skincare founder Ling Chan about her secrets for maintaining a flawless complexion.
Dehydration causes a myriad of skin issues
“Surface dehydration disrupts the body’s natural production and secretion of oil,” Chan explained to Elle. “It’s the cause of dryness, dull skin, milia, broken capillaries, premature aging, sagging skin, breakouts, blackheads, large pores, redness, sensitivity, roughness, fine lines, wrinkles and acne. It is crucial to rehydrate the skin with moisture tonic to balance the oil glands. Hydrating liquid tonic will effectively penetrate and saturate moisture into the deep layers of the skin. Creams and lotions are heavier and will only stay on the top layers of the skin.”
Skin cells are like roof shingles
“Apply hydrator or toner in a gentle upward motion,” Chan told Elle. “This will allow the skin to better absorb the hydration as the formation of our skin cells are similar to overlapping roof shingles on a house.”
Tone your face muscles
“Apply products in an upward motion firms, lifts and contours facial muscles,” Chan commented to Elle.
Get a facial about once a month
“Every 28 days, our skin undergoes one full skin cycle,” Chan explained to Elle. “To achieve healthy cell turnover, dead skin cells and impurities need to be removed. Oxidized oil trapped in the pores will clog the skin. With a thorough cleansing facial once a month, skin can breathe and look healthier.”
Don’t waste product on clogged pores
“Clean pores are the key to healthy skin,” Chan told Elle. “Extractions are important and you will see improved penetration of active ingredients. Application of skin cream on dead cells or clogged pores will not yield optimal results. Plus, nightly cleansing and exfoliation is important to remove dead cells, pollution and to prevent acne bacteria buildup.”
Iced drinks cause eye bags
“Be careful to avoid and limit ice-cold drinks,” Chan suggested to Elle. “Iced drinks weaken our kidney function which in turn can cause eye bags. Avoid drinking too much water two hours or sooner before sleeping, as excess water in the body during sleep hours will cause water retention and puffiness.”
Use your fingers instead of cotton pads
“It is not necessary to use cotton balls because it will waste product,” Chan explained to Elle. “Apply with your palm and fingertips in an upward sweeping motion.”
Sleep with a hydrating mask for an amazing morning glow
“Applying a hydrating or oxygen mask during sleep hours is a trick to expedite the skin and body’s regeneration and wake up with a rejuvenated complexion,” Chan told Elle.
