Labiaplasty is a popular procedure for women who are mothers but who have stopped having children and want to reshape their vagina to how it looked prior to childbirth. The surgery is meant to firm up the labia minor or major by removing excess skin and achieving symmetry. During childbirth, your labia may have been stretched or torn, which can cause discomfort, pain and an unattractive appearance.
You can decide how much skin to remove, but it’s important to leave enough to protect the vaginal orifice. You should not over-correct the situation. During the procedure, excess tissue surrounding the clitoris can also be removed to heighten sexual pleasure, but the clitoris is usually not part of the procedure.
Bed rest and cold compresses are recommended for two to three days after the procedure. You can slowly resume your normal activities after one week. Strenuous activity and sexual intercourse should be avoided for four to six weeks.
Other Reasons for Labiaplasty
Your labia may be long and unattractive. You might choose to have labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons. Your partner might also find that your genital area is more attractive after a labiaplasty.
Very long labia can interfere with the functioning of your vagina, which can prevent orgasm. You might also have hygienic issues during urination and menstruation.
You might experience discomfort when you wear tight clothing. Labiaplasty can reduce the pain.
