Sculptra Aesthetic, made by the manufacture Sanofis-Aventis has been used throughout Europe since 1999 to improve the appearance of aging skin folds, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. Sculptra has been widely used in the United States since and has been in high demand for restoring volume to the cheeks, temples and nasolabial folds. Sculptra Aesthetic has received approval from the FDA for the treatment of deep nasolabial folds or smile lines and other facial wrinkles.
Sculptra is made up of Poly-L-lactic acid. This material works to gradually produce increasing thickness of the skin. The material is biocompatible and can be dissolved by the body safely.
Sculptra is injected by a trained medical professional or board-certified plastic surgeon at RL Cosmetic
Surgery & Medspa. Typically, the patient is evaluated prior in a free consultation to reassure the patient is a candidate for Sculptra. Once a plan is configured between the doctor and the patient, injections sites and treatment areas will be discussed along
with an appropriate amount of Sculptra. Sculptra is then carefully injected under the dermis and subcutis layer for best results.
The treatment takes 15 – 30 minutes along with post-instructions to massage area a few times a day. Results can be seen weeks after the treatment.
In our experience at RL Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa, Sculptra provides up to 80 percent improvement in the treated areas. Results become noticeable after the first round however, three to six treatment sessions may be required. After full completion of treatments, Sculptra
Aesthetic may last up to two years.
Temporary side effects of Sculptra include may include tenderness, redness, and discomfort at the injection points, which can last up to two weeks. Your doctor should explain the possible complications and the remedies during your initial consultation.
The best candidate for Sculptra injections is someone who has a considerable loss of volume or thinning of the face due to collagen loss. Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful looking and smooth. As you age, your body’s collagen production
decreases, and you may begin to see wrinkles. Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments. On
average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months.
Sculptra Aesthetic is different from all dermal fillers or hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane; as it gradually and subtly corrects facial wrinkles. With all types of surgical and non-surgical treatments, an experienced provider will allow for the best results.
There are several dermal filler options today such as; Juvederm, Restylane, Artefill, Sculptra, Perlane and more. Call RL Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa to schedule a free consultation with a patient coordinator for your customized plan at 847-367-8815.
